This courtyard was tiny and certainly the smallest project we have taken on! The client was keen to transform it and have a cosy outdoor seating space with bike storage so we couldn’t resist the challenge.
The space was 6m by less than 3m deep so every feature had to justify it’s worth! The design centred around a beautiful hardwood fitted curved corner seating for the afternoon sun (with storage below) which incorporated the house steps as part of the seating. A raised planted bed was located next to the seating and clad with some handmade aquatic-toned tiles which brought planting and fragrance close to the client, as well as attractive views from the kitchen. We made this seating corner cosier with some bespoke powder coated steel beams as a contemporary pergola in a luscious warm teal colour. A second bed was in the opposite diagonal corner from the seating with a small water feature to enjoy this ‘long’ view towards the sun.
The floor was made from beautiful limestone stone paver floor in a herringbone pattern, and a bespoke hardwood bike and log store with a planted green roof. Because of the size the client could afford to invest in quality materials making this a beautiful and functional tiny courtyard!
